What you pay for
Testing has three parts: someone to collect the sample safely, a laboratory to analyse it and a report that records the result. You can buy the lab test alone, or pair it with a collection visit or a full inspection.
Our asbestos check and testing pages explain when each makes sense.
Laboratory examples
Laboratories publish their own fees, and these examples help you compare. Identifibre lists $77 per sample for standard turnaround, $99 for next day and $132 for same day. Greenlight Services in Moorabbin lists $99 per sample.

Fees can change, so confirm with the laboratory before you send anything.
Cutting the cost sensibly
Group samples into a single visit, take clear photos first and tell us the age of the building. If removal is likely, a combined inspection and removal plan avoids paying twice for the same site time.
Never skip testing to save money on a job that will disturb the material. A result is cheaper than a stopped renovation.
