Bonded or friable matters most
Bonded sheets stay solid and are removed in whole pieces. Friable coatings crumble by hand and release fibres easily. A Class A licence covers friable and non-friable work, while a Class B licence covers bonded only.
We confirm which you have by inspection and testing, never by a photo.
Why ceilings need extra care
Work happens overhead, so dust falls where you stand. Containment, wet methods and careful wrapping keep it controlled, and insulation above the ceiling may also need handling.
A clearance certificate is required for any friable removal and for more than 10m² of non-friable removal, issued by an independent competent person such as an occupational hygienist before reoccupation.
Notification and disposal
The removalist notifies WorkSafe Victoria at least 24 hours before for non-friable work of 10m² or less, and at least 5 days before for more than 10m² or any friable work. All waste goes to an EPA Victoria-authorised facility and is recorded in Waste Tracker.
Victorian rules differ for private householders and businesses. For any renovation involving asbestos, use a WorkSafe Victoria-licensed removalist.
