Typical rates by material and how to compare quotes fairly.
What moves the price
- Volume and weight: disposal is charged by load or weight.
- Access: tight spaces and hand-carry routes add labour time.
- Condition: friable material needs stricter, slower protocols than bonded.
- Height: roofs and second storeys need scaffolding and edge protection.
Beware the cheap quote
In March 2023, WorkSafe Victoria reported a demolition company was fined $25,500 plus $3,999 in costs after asbestos sheeting at a Watsonia North home was loaded into a skip with an excavator. A very low price often means corners cut on disposal.
Read the WorkSafe Victoria reportMore than one asbestos job on the property? Book them for the same visit and you only need one independent clearance inspection, so you are not paying for a separate clearance on every job.
All prices include GST. Independent clearance is quoted on site and included in every removal quote, alongside removal, wrapping, transport and disposal.
Some advertised rates leave out disposal, cartage or clearance. Ask every removalist what the quote covers and compare the full total instead of the headline figure.
